Here is what actually leads to burnout!
When we think of burnout, we often think of exhaustion from work.
That's not the full picture.
The most exhausting thing is when we are not in alignment with our highest values.
When we do things that simply are not in congruence with ourselves. When we actually are not listening to ourselves.
When we take that job we don’t want to. When we don’t set the necessary boundaries. When we say one thing and mean another.
Exhaustion is an incongruence between our soul and the way we present.
That feeling of ingenuity. It drains you of your energy.
Who enjoys being a person they are not? Changing our appearance, the way we speak, the way we act at the expense of our own mental health.
As marginalized beings, we are accustomed to being what others expect us to be. This needs to stop.
So when do you feel your most authentic self?
When are you living in your highest values? What are you doing? What environment are you in? What people are you around?
We have to break this divergence between who we are and who we think we should be.
The first step is to get clear on what really matters to us. Not what we think should matter to us.
Get brutally honest with yourself. What do you enjoy? How do you actually spend your time? Is it watching Netflix? Facetiming with friends? Playing music?
Don’t be afraid to claim who you are and make it known to those around you. Don’t let dull people and environments steal your shine!
Get closer to yourself. That is a courageous act.
I promise you, being your authentic self is what will bring you most joy in life.
