Your pain is NOT a to-do list

What's on your to-do list today?

Ahhhh the satisfaction of ticking off an item.

A to-do list is great for things like household chores, errands, work responsibilities.

But you know what shouldn’t be on your to-do list? YOU!

In my practice, I often hear a similar narrative among them...

  • “I already cried about this.”

  • “I thought I dealt with this.”

  • “Why am I still feeling this way?”

As if pain and sadness are something you can cross off your list of things to do!

It just doesn’t work that way. Our emotional well-being is not a to-do list. We can’t experience an emotion and then expect to fully heal from trauma and oppression.

We are fluid beings and the emotions we experience will come and go. And when they go, that doesn’t mean they are gone forever.

So don’t beat yourself up when those feelings begin to resurface. Invite in the emotions you are feeling and be at peace with that.

Ride the waves.

Experience whatever it is you are feeling. You can be sad, mad, hurt and trust that this emotion shall pass too.

Healing takes time. A looooong time. You will have days where you feel on top of the world and others where you won’t want to get out of bed. You aren’t alone. I’m with you.

We are energetic beings and our somatic experience will fluctuate. That is just characteristic of our experience here in this life.

Continue to make those checklists for laundry, grocery store runs, and work projects.

But throw out any list that has to do with your feelings.

You are not a to-do list. You are so much more. So much more dynamic and unique.
