This video made me puke

I have a feeling you’re overcompensating, Amber.

You try to hide that you’re not feeling good enough.. Like "Really. I'm goooood"... and then you overwork to the point of exhaustion.

You work long days. You say yes to everyone. And you act like you’re totally okay because you’re perfect and perfect people are capable of everything!

I call bullsh*t.

Yea, it’s exhausting and one big fat lie.

Overcompensating has a huge toll on our bodies. It gets the best of us.

Constantly feeling unworthy. Like who you are is not enough or what you do is not enough.

We feel this, especially as n’betweeners.

Our experience is constantly questioned. We feel like we have to prove ourselves.

Let me remind you loud and clear: NOT your FAULT!

We saw this happen over the last few weeks as Kentanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court in the US. During her Senate hearings, we saw how ruthlessly she was treated. Questioned on the most absurd and irrelevant topics. And who posed these ridiculous questions? White cis-het men…of course.

This video made me want to puke…

She was verbally abused, doubted, accused, and interrupted. So many times she could have given up, but she pushed through. She answered graciously, she sat patiently and she made history.

This is the SET-UP

You are taught to work extra hard to prove yourself.

The moment we free ourselves from oppression is when we choose to see our worth.

You can transform that feeling of unworthiness.

You can turn your experience of not believing you’re enough into a realization of your uniqueness.

Use people like Judge Jackson as figures of inspiration.

Representation is so important in discovering our worthiness. It’s special to see someone with the same race, gender, hair type, sexual orientation, or nationality, on the stage we wish to pursue.

I know, It’s easy to be consumed by thoughts that we aren’t enough because that’s what we are taught to believe.

What I can tell you is that you hold the power.

You don’t have to give in to the lies that society feeds you. Whoever you are, however you behave is enough.

Your authenticity will always prevail.
