Press Release:
Boulder Psychotherapist and Anti-Oppression Educator Nora Alwah Coins New Term, Raises Funds to Write a Book for People with Multiple Marginalized Identities
Nora Alwah – a Danish and Comorian Counseling Graduate, anti-oppression educator, and immigrant who recently became a U.S. Citizen – works exclusively with queer, trans, immigrant, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and other marginalized individuals. These are groups of people who have historically grappled with the harmful effects of systemic oppression.
She sees an acute need for support and belonging among those with multiple marginalized identities. People who are Indigenous and queer, BIPOC and neurodivergent, trans and nonbinary, women and People of Color.
She already coined a term for these individuals: n’betweeners. Now, she is raising funds to write a much-needed book to highlight their experience - to provide representation to a group which is so chronically underrepresented. By writing this book, Nora is following the legacy of her father, who owned Comoros’ only bookstore.
This fierce dedication to n’betweeners ignited because of Alwah’s own n’betweener story. As a mixed-race multilingual queer woman growing up in a predominantly white country, she was often questioned about her identity.
To write the book, Alwah will journey across the world to physically inhabit the spaces n’between. Her trip will begin in Denmark, where she was born, and end in Comoros, where her father is buried. As a token of gratitude, Alwah plans to restore his home that once housed that sole bookstore in Comoros.
Alwah’s book will give language to those who have long existed without representation. It will acknowledge and validate the n’betweener existence while educating and empowering them to live an inspired life. Alwah believes n’betweeners have unique gifts that can change the world and that it’s time they have the support to do so. The book aims to help those trapped in a powerless cycle unleash the confidence to achieve what they truly desire.
Nora Alwah is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and somatic psychotherapist based in Boulder, Colorado. She got her start nearly ten years ago when she moved from her home in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Boulder, Colorado, to complete her graduate degree.
For Alwah, completing her education was a lifelong dream she was determined to make happen—and that she did. Ten years ago, she successfully created a crowdfunding campaign that raised funds to complete one semester of grad school. Now, she runs a successful psychotherapy practice and is supporting clients in a revolutionary way.
Her entire career has been dedicated to helping n’betweeners find a sense of belonging and fulfill their potential. She understands their unique struggle to live authentically and brings awareness to how n’betweeners hold themselves back. Her work doesn’t stop at providing therapy. Alwah also launched an online course with tools and resources to support n’betweeners in healing internalized oppression, turning their pain into power.
All press coverage of Nora’s work with n’betweeners – and in particular of her work to write the first ever n’betweener book – is welcome and encouraged. For questions or press inquiries, email Nora at info@noraalwah.com. To support the creation of Nora’s book, donate here.
