LOOK! You’re on a dollar coin!

Happy Black History Month!

Let’s be real... every day is a day to celebrate Black history. One month just ain’t gonna cut it, but we will celebrate nevertheless!

A lot of times, as Black people or any marginalized identity, we don’t feel celebrated or empowered. The world shuts us down, and we feel like we have to prove ourselves by working extra hard. It feels like: “Am I ever gonna win?”.

Well I felt a huge WIN recently. And you most likely will soon be holding this in the palm of your hands.

It’s a coin… but not just any coin.

Oprah calls it “a true treasure”.

A quarter.

This coin may technically be worth 25 cents, but I think it’s worth a million.

This treasure represents possibilities. It represents hope. That you’re worthy of investing in yourself.

For the first time in US history, a woman of color is represented on the most powerful currency.

Dr. Maya Angelou is the first Black woman on a US quarter!

When Maya is seen, you're seen. We’re represented, we deeply exhale. It’s a glimpse of hope.

We’re reminded that yes we can be powerful.

You deserve more abundance. Who knows maybe you’ll be on the first 100 dollars bill?

Yes, the world can often be against you and me. We’re the underdogs in this storyline. But that doesn’t mean we can’t win. I think Black History Month is a beautiful time to remind you of that. Because yes, we may not have the same resources in our corner, but we can’t get in our own way of success. We have to root for ourselves because no one else will.

You have to acknowledge the ways YOU are in the way of your own growth. Yes, self-sabotage is a thing and oftentimes we unconsciously take part in it.

When we believe that we don’t deserve good things, we energetically reject them so that they don’t even have the possibility of happening. And that’s at the core of the marginalized experience.

We are so used to bad things happening, so accustomed to an oppressed life, that when something actually good happens we are skeptical. We think “this is way too good to be true.”

As marginalized individuals, we’re much harder on ourselves than the dominant group is on themselves.

So, when we're presented with an opportunity to level up, we inhibit ourselves. This happens in our relationships, careers, or even when simply making our voice heard.

So especially NOW let’s invite in the good when it’s here.

What are you looking forward to this Black History Month?

Whatever it is, you deserve it! Find value in who you are and commit to allowing yourself those good things.

Let this month be an opportunity to bask in the beauty of yourself.
