Your landowner is dead. Or is she?

Sometimes something needs to die in order for something to be healed.

And sometimes that is the representation and actions of someone.

In this case Queen Elizabeth II.

Representation matters in both directions, meaning underrepresentation AND overrepresentation.

We usually think of the lack of representation of Indigenous, queer, trans, people with disabilities and any marginalized group. But OVERrepresentation also has a cost.

When the Queen (and the entire royal family) is viewed as kind, non-political and altruistic, this allows a certain narrative to be widespread, and the erasure of accountability. In other words Imperialism becomes accepted.

But what does she *actually* represent?

Queen Elizabeth symbolizes Ultimate Supremacy.

White supremacy. Aristocracy. Power Over.

This passing allows much-needed conversations on how to put an end to colonization and the British Empire, and the path towards repair and liberation.

When the leader of royal rule dies, truths are revealed.

I’m sure you’ve seen this all over social media, people sharing their anger, pain and experiences of British colonization, holding the UK accountable.

Yes colonization isn’t news but the understanding of its full impact is necessary to be revealed. This allows institutional change to come forward.

Countries part of the Commonwealth are reconsidering their membership. And right before her passing, we saw Kenyans take the UK to the EU Human Rights court. This is necessary.

Institutional shifts need to happen
