Shhh…here is some comfort food for hard times

No shame.

That feeling when you get in your comfy PJs, and eat that slice of pizza in bed while watching your favorite show.

Isn’t it greaaaaat? :)

When we struggle, we look for comfort. We might know that movement or a bath are potentially better choices (and less messy), but sometimes it’s just not what we need.

This phenomenon also happens as n’betweeners.

We need n’betweener-comfy-food.

What do I mean by that? We crave something that will soothe our pain. The pain being a lack of representation, constant microaggressions, feeling invisible, and horrific violence.

To my queer family, we're especially needing this right now

We were tragically reminded of this pain over the weekend when we lost our queer siblings right here in Colorado on Transgender Remembrance Day. A day that was then filled with further mourning.

As the days get darker in the northern hemisphere, we naturally look for comfort. The darkness brings on feelings of hibernation.

In the US, it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow, and there is a lot we can say about this oppressive holiday, but one thing that we can feel grateful for is the food.

Whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, I thought I’d give a platter to you. But only cause it's YOU I'm sharing these...

Here are my current comfort foods as an n’betweener

  1. Pretending I’m in Paris - (re-re-re) watching Dix pour cent.

  2. Heating up frozen-kept Danish rugbrød (the best bread.. NYC peeps get it here)

  3. (obv.) anything Trevor Noah (“I wish you would” new on Netflix)

  4. Blasting Danishness “Stor Mand” in the car (oh and this one)

  5. Brunching with my British bestie

  6. Proud-crying to “I’m brave, I’m bruised, I am who I’m meant to be. This is is me”

  7. Calling min mor, my mutti.

Ok now your turn. What are your comfy foods? Is it an emotional song? A nostalgic book? Podcast? A smell? Tell me… tell meeee pls :) (hit that reply button yes)

There is nothing to be ashamed of. These are your resources. They heal you. Don’t minimize how supportive they are.

When you feel unseen and misunderstood, you can turn to one of these resources.

Sending you a warm comforting hug and endless comfort food.

kram kram
