Don't be afraid to be UGLY..
Daaamn I’m impressed. That’s what I call a joyful cultural celebration!
Renaissance - Beyoncé's new concert documentary. Of course I had to watch it with my fellow Beyhiver Stef.
It was GORGEOUS. Glamorous. Every single detail was thought through (Virgo brilliance obv.).
BUT I gotta be honest with you:
My favorite part of the entire 3 hours was *not* singing and dancing to “Bad bitch, bisous, right then left cheek, muah 💋”
It’s when Bey eats her effin sandwich makeupless.
or when she got so anxious about her 11-year daughter Blue performing for the first time.
or that close-up moment of her knee surgery she had a month before rehearsal.
It’s when she is most real.
Hear this: The “ugly moments” matter.
Authenticity inspires us. And the best REAL-recipe always includes imperfection.
Glamour is sold to us.
It’s December and we expect some type of julehygge (Danish for that special cozy-feeling of Xmas). So we do everything to maintain that hygge, play “All I Want for Christmas is You” on repeat, hang the wreath and Xmas lights… and somehow manage to get disappointed or overwhelmed.
Yes, Christmas can absolutely be beautiful, warm and lovely, but it doesn’t necessarily come without the disappointing experiences with family, the expensive presents…or, for those who don’t celebrate, the lingering loneliness of this time.
Bey isn’t living a glamorous life.
No, she cries, gets injured, and gets mad at traffic. But we prefer to imagine a fantasy image. In other words we like to think we can buy glamour.
So maybe this month you could try something else with me.
Allow the both and n’betweener.
The beauty and the ugly.
Let them coexist side by side, let them each have their seat.
See if it’s ok to hang in the ugliness, who knows you might turn into a swan 🧡.
Loving hugs
Nora
