This made me want to puke

Here is how my inbox looks:

Rainbows and unicorns everywhere

Words like “Anti-racist action plan”, and “In solidarity with Black Lives”.

The intention is to be inclusive.

I can’t help but brace myself at the next email click, or the next pride flag outside a commercial store.

I think to myself, Do you really get it? Or are you just playing “good ally”? Are you just copying what everyone else is doing?

You get what I am saying.

For us QTPOC (queer and/or trans people of color), we don’t always feel included and prideful in that “colorful” flag.

We are conveniently used/displayed when it becomes about a company’s branding.

Meanwhile, we are conveniently disposed of or ignored when we speak our truth.

This happens too often. And not just in the US.

Here is what made me want to puke, that popped up on my feed the other day:

The prime minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, posted a picture of her Black friend from Kenya stating the following: “It is a difficult time that our friends in the United States are going through these days” (directly translated from Danish).

The point of this? To prove that she is not racist. That Denmark is not racist.

The reality: LIES! Perpetuating racism. Objectifying Black folks.

We are not yours to profit on.

Stop treating us like objects.

You do not get to take our bodies and use them to brand yourself.

In today’s video, I will talk about the difference between tokenizing versus elevating marginalized folks.

Need a QTPOC or queer empowered space?

Join me TODAY for the Queer Speaker Series at 4.30PM MST

“Let’s center ourselves! Making space for QTBIPOC voices”

Here is what we will cover:

During this pandemic and racial justice movement, we have been deprived of choice: our bodies being killed, losing loved ones, being furloughed.

This leads us to underestimate our power to choose.

Let’s come together to center our experiences and discover our innate power. I'll see you there!

You can RSVP here at fielddays.space.

Partial ticket sales will go to the Center for Black Equity, the national leader in connecting members of the QTBIPOC community with information and resources to encourage equity and access.

See ya soon?
