Your pain is a superpower!
Ok let me ask you something, n’betweener!
When do you feel most disempowered in your marginalized identity?
Take a moment to think about it. What situation?
What if I told you that the thing that feels disempowering actually is where your superpower lives?
YAAAS!
We’re forced into engaging in so many oppressive situations that we actually INCREASE our superpower!
For example, you find yourself being the only woman/immigrant/asian/gay/deaf/[…] person in the room.
That experience is isolating and maybe even scary.
It seems like people just don’t get you BUUUT you have this incredible skill to code switch and navigate the situation.
You’re adaptable! You stand up for yourself. You can read a room better than anyone!
That shows your superpower. You live a fuller life!
I know oppression is fucked, and it’s important to remember that we develop incredible superpowers than others in privileged identities simply don’t!
Our pain has something to teach us always!
There is value to our pain, if we let ourselves receive it.
I know it is hard.
As n'betweeners, we often hurt and feel alone in our experience, and it also allows us to see and understand things in a way no one else can.
Taking these negative feelings and giving them value is tough, but when we are able to do so, we gift ourselves the ability to recognize our abundance and our strengths.
You get to see your unique superpower.
So, what is currently disempowering you? How can you transform that into an instance that actually supports you?
It may be difficult or take a while to realize, but I promise you there is something there.
Something that uniquely makes you who you are.
