Don’t cancel me..
It’s exhausting always trying to get it right. I mean, when everything we do leaves a digital footprint, it’s hard not to second guess ourselves. Like, should I really be putting this out there?
You know the term Cancel Culture. It’s alive and well in this day and age. Celebrities, influencers, and politicians alike all canceled and subsequently shamed for their actions.
While most people who have been “canceled” definitely needed a reality check. Endorsing shame never solves the issue.
The issue with cancel culture is that it gives you no room to redeem yourself. No opportunity to learn and change.
So you hold yourself back in fear of being judged.
You don’t say or do the thing that could actually propel you forward. Like starting that new blog or expressing yourself on the internet.
Whether it’s something big or small, you fear the repercussions of being shamed and I don’t blame you. Society has really taught you to believe that you can’t make mistakes. That you have to get it right the first time.
Cancel culture is not effective, and I really don’t want it to stand in your way of doing what you want. Screw the internet trolls and haters…you’re trying your best. We all are.
Let me normalize making mistakes for you:
I've culturally appropriated
I've made a ton of oppressive remarks
I've hurt my clients
I've shied away of my privileges.
And let's be clear, I will continue to make these mistakes and continue expanding on how to be more aware.
Remember that the world is lucky to get a glimpse of who you are and what you do. So don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. To try something new or something you’ve done a million times before.
It’s okay if this ends up having a negative impact on someone. Repair can happen. You can learn, improve and try again.
What have you been putting off?
