Craaaaaving normalcy?!

COVID has completely changed the way we live, and though it may seem that the mask-wearing and social distancing have become a normal part of life, we still feel deep resistance to this pandemic.

We are currently seeing spikes in the virus around the globe.

This has a great cost on our nervous system.

Our mind spirals with questions: Am I ok? Are we safe? Are we going back to a strict quarantine? What will close this time? Will I get to see my family?

So let's take a deep breath together here.

Lengthen that exhale. Feel it in your belly.

What we can expect is continued change. Change to our routines, our expectations, and our lifestyles. We’ve been experiencing stark change all year long. In a matter of weeks, we started to classify our lives into pre and post-COVID categories.

With this drastic change has come resistance to it. Does anyone actually want to wear a mask? Or limit the size of their gatherings? Or stay in their homes? No. We want to walk freely. We want to join with our friends and family for the holidays. We want to travel across state and country lines. We want to resist the changes that have been put in place. We want to do things that might not always be responsible.

And we’ve all probably actually done them because we desperately want some sense of normalcy. To grasp onto the routines and lifestyles that make sense to us.

We want control of our lives rather than feeling like this pandemic is controlling us.

But that’s just it. We can’t control it. We can’t change the process. We can’t predict what’s to come. What we can do is find the silver linings throughout the process. We can support regulate our nervous system. Yes, I know it seems like a year of darkness, let us find the light! Be resilient rather than resistant.

As marginalized folks, we possess this resilience in our DNA. Our ancestors have been through war, colonization, and even pandemics. They have fought through it all and have passed on this strength to us. We can use resilience as an opportunity to learn and reflect.

So, my question to you is:

What is something radical this pandemic has forced you to do and how has that changed you?

Have you learned something new about yourself? Have you opened yourself up to change? Let me know, what reflections have you made in the past year?

Take care of yourself and choose resilience over resistance. Check out my previous video to increase your resilience boost.

It’s a tough time, but you are not alone. We will get through this together.

XO
