Nope, there is nothing "minor" about you.

You’re not a minority.

Do you remember being a kid and your parents or adults would tell you “You’re too small to do this,” cause you wanted to go on a rollercoaster ride, stay up late or go to the mall unsupervised.

You were a minor.

But the word minor literally means “less important.”

There is absolutely nothing empowering about being "a minority".

It’s not a coincidence that people living with many forms of oppression – aka n’betweeners – are called “minorities.” It’s a harmful word intended to make us believe that we’re less than others.

You’re *not* MORE important if you’re straight, able-bodied, White, christian, a cis-man, or any other privileged dominant identity.

AND

You’re *not* LESS important if you’re trans, queer, Jewish, living with a disability, Asian, or any other marginalized identity.

These narratives are harmful.

You might think, but “Nora it’s just a word, it doesn’t mean anything.”

Are you sure about that?

Let me give you an example.

When it comes to race, BIPOC are considered the minority... (when in reality we’re the majority of the world’s population). But somehow when we talk about a random person the default is always a White person.

Words and language matter. When we use words that encompass blatant lies, we create dangerous stories about the world. What happens when you receive constant  messages that you’re “less than?” You start internalizing it. You stop pushing the status quo. You start believing that you “cannot do” certain things, that your voice is less than. That you don’t have power or control.

Think of a time when you held yourself back because you *thought* you weren’t capable . How would your reality be different if you had pursued the thing you thought impossible?

Here is why I coined the term n’betweener:

I wanted to find a unifying word that allowed multiplicity and complexity to exist – where all of you could be. Where all your parts could co-exist.

Well, let me tell you some good news.

I’ve got a special physical space for you

A space where you get to exhale deeply. Where you get to belong.

It’s called the nest.

This nest is a 1.5-day retreat. It’s a space to feel empowered in a way that truly nourishes you. This is where you come to feel reflected by others without saying a word.

There are just 3 spots left. So hurry up.

We’re just 10 days away!

Sending you a hug,

Nora
