Are you the next Maya Angelou?!
I have some BIIIIG news to share with you today. So keep reading👇
First I want to start with this confession: I frequently compare myself to people I admire.
Especially Black women. Women of color who have faced deep levels of racism and sexism. Like Beyoncé, Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou...
I put myself down and put them on a pedestal. I think to myself: “I’ll never feel as [fill in the blank] as them.”
Can you relate? Do you compare yourself? To that friend who seems to have it alllll going for them? Or that coworker who just always has it together? Like, do they ever get insecure or stressed?
It’s hard not to compare yourself to people who are doing the things you want to do because in a way you feel like you want to be them.
Here is the thing you need to know:
Michelle Obama feels UNWORTHY. Still today she shares how she deals with imposter syndrome (read that again if you need to - yes the former First Lady of the United States).
Maya Angelou felt INSECURE. Despite winning hundreds of awards, she thought her next book would be a failure.
The difference between you and the person you admire is that they dare to take a RISK and believe in themselves, even when they feel like an imposter.
Comparing yourself eats away at you. Your confidence deteriorates and you start to feel like a fraud. The limiting beliefs pile up and make you question what you're really capable of.
But they’re all lies! The truth is, you already have everything you need to live your best life. You just need some tools.
Start seeing THE Maya Angelou inside of you! (or whomever you look up to)
If you’re comparing yourself, I’m sure it’s because you have a desire to be the very best you can be. You have a drive, a hunger to be successful not just in terms of a career, but the way you live your life. You own the right to access your potential.
So are you ready to start believing in yourself?
